Can our biodiversity to protect even more? National parks and other protected areas are rich in important habitats and species in the country, of which certain species have international protection regime. The beginnings of introducing ecological network Natura 2000 provides identification of specific areas, habitats and species at national level according to the requirements of the directives on habitats and birds, hence the need for coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning (MoEPP) and the established national parks.
The first workshop for Natura 2000 was held on 28.04.2016 in the NP Mavrovo. The purpose of the workshop was to strengthen the capacities of the National Park Mavrovo and cooperation with the Department for nature in the MoEPP. The international experts – Daniel Bogner, Team Leader of the above project, and Ernesto Ruiz – expert for habitats presented experiences regarding the legal basis for Natura 2000, selection, nomination and management of Natura 2000 sites, and activities for development of these areas with examples from EU countries.
