The management plans for implementation of Natura 2000 in the Country are yet to be developed.
In the meanwhile, the guidelines from the Directives should be used as a basis.
Managing and protecting Natura 2000 sites
Article 6 is one of the most important articles in the Habitats Directive as it defines how Natura 2000 sites are managed and protected. Within Natura 2000, Member States:
- Take appropriate conservation measures to maintain and restore the habitats and species for which the site has been designated to a favorable conservation status;
- Avoid damaging activities that could significantly disturb these species or deteriorate the habitats of the protected species or habitat types.
Active management of certain habitats is considered necessary for the conservation of Natura 2000 sites. On the following link of the European Commission web site documents can be found for selected habitats containing detailed descriptions of practical management techniques which are designed to help site management through own site-specific management plans for the habitat types and species targeted. Implementation of those techniques “in the field” and taking local constraints into account should lead towards management plans that are both in line with the local conditions as well as the Directives.
The management of the Natura 2000 also includes links between the Water Framework Directive and Natura 2000 Network. Guidelines are available on the following link.
