In the frame of the EU funded project „Improving Capacities for Natura 2000 and CITES“ a workshop was held on the topic of Methodology for designation of Natura 2000 areas according to the EU Birds Directive.
International experts for protection of birds from Slovenia and Poland presented experiences from their countries on the process of designating Natura 2000 sites for birds based on IBA (Important Bird Areas).
Also, international experiences from Poland, Slovenia and Austria for agro-environmental measures and subsidies related to protection of birds were presented.
A main conclusion of the workshop was that the IBA areas in North Macedonia (published 2011) will be revised during the ongoing project, which will be the basis for nomination as SPA (Special Protection Areas according to Birds Directive)
